Loading the tool…
A car loan, a phone on instalments, a personal loan from the bank — they all come down to one number: what leaves your account every month, and for how long. Enter the loan amount, the interest rate and the years, and this calculator gives you the monthly EMI, the total interest you will pay, and the true total cost of borrowing.
The total interest line is the one to stare at. On long loans it regularly surprises people: stretching the same loan over more years lowers the monthly payment but can add a third again to what you hand the bank in interest. Slide the years up and down here first — it costs nothing, unlike signing first.
Enter the loan amount (principal).
Enter the yearly interest rate and the loan period in years.
See the monthly EMI, total interest and total payable.
EMI = P × r × (1+r)ⁿ ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (yearly rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of monthly payments.
A loan of Rs 1,000,000 at 20% yearly interest for 3 years: EMI ≈ Rs 37,164 per month, total interest ≈ Rs 337,884, total payable ≈ Rs 1,337,884.
It lowers the monthly payment but increases the total interest, often by a lot. Shorter periods are harder monthly and cheaper overall — this calculator lets you compare both before deciding.
Very close for the EMI itself, if the rate you entered matches your agreement. Banks may add processing fees and insurance on top, which this estimate does not include.
