About this tool

Merge two contact lists, clean a keyword export, tidy a spreadsheet column — duplicates creep in everywhere and removing them by eye is nobody's hobby. Paste the list here, click once, and get it back with every repeated line gone and a count of exactly how many were dropped.

The order never changes: the first copy of each line stays where it was, only the later repeats go. That matters when the list is ranked, numbered or in an order someone chose on purpose.

How to use the Remove Duplicate Lines

Questions people ask

Does the order of lines change?

No. The first copy of each line stays in its place; only the repeated copies after it are removed.

Are “Apple” and “apple” treated as the same line?

By default, yes — matching ignores capitalisation and stray spaces at the ends of lines. Switch the case-sensitive option on if you need exact matching.

What happens to blank lines?

A run of blank lines counts as repeats of each other, so they collapse to one. If your list needs the gaps as separators, keep that in mind.

Is there a limit to how many lines I can paste?

Nothing artificial. Very large lists (hundreds of thousands of lines) depend on your device, but everyday lists run instantly.
