About this tool

That “file too large” error always arrives at the worst moment: the last day of admissions, a client waiting on WhatsApp, a product photo slowing your shop down. Drop the image here, choose how hard to squeeze, and see the before-and-after sizes side by side before you download anything.

The tool shows its working honestly. You pick the quality, it re-encodes the picture at that quality, and if the result is somehow bigger than what you started with, it tells you and hands back the smaller one. No silent surprises, no “compressed” file that is heavier than the original.

Worth knowing: Compression is a trade, not magic: past a point, squeezing harder costs visible detail. For photos people will look at closely, stay at 75 or above. For a form that only needs a readable document, 50 is plenty.

How to use the Image Compressor

Questions people ask

What quality should I choose?

For websites and sharing, 75–85 usually keeps photos looking clean while cutting most of the weight. For scanned documents and forms, you can go lower.

A form asks for a photo under 200 KB. How do I hit that?

Start at quality 70 and check the result size. If it is still too big, lower the quality a step at a time — or resize the photo smaller first with the Image Resizer, which shrinks the size dramatically.

Does it work for PNG files too?

Yes. PNG files are re-encoded as JPG at your chosen quality, which is where the big savings come from. The result is a JPG, so transparent areas turn white.

Are my images stored on your server?

Never. Compression runs entirely in your browser, on your device.
