About this tool

“Write 500 words” sounds simple until you are twelve words over the limit with the deadline tonight. Paste your text here and get the honest numbers instantly: words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs — and how long the piece takes to read aloud, which is the number video scripts live and die by.

The count updates as you type, so you can trim a sentence and watch the total settle exactly where the teacher, editor or client asked for it. Writers use it for essays and articles; YouTubers use the reading-time figure to plan video length before recording a single line.

How to use the Word Counter

Questions people ask

How is reading time calculated?

At an average speaking pace of about 200 words per minute. A slowly and carefully read script will take a little longer than the estimate.

Does it count Urdu or other languages?

Yes. Words are counted by spaces and characters are counted properly as Unicode, so Urdu, Arabic and mixed-language text all count correctly.

Why do two word counters give different numbers?

Small differences are normal: some counters treat hyphenated words or numbers differently. The differences are tiny and no serious teacher or editor minds them.

Is my text saved or sent anywhere?

No. Counting happens in your browser — your essay, script or letter never leaves the page.
